I reject orders without a full serial number if the model is older than 5 years. The parts change across production runs. Step 2: Identify the Burner Motor Type

- Electronic Cam Motors: Found on RS series gas burners. These require a specific Riello-supplied motor (often a 0.18kW or 0.37kW variant).
Pro tip: Look at the capacitor values written on the side of the existing motor. If you see two capacitors (e.g., 8µF and 10µF), you have a 2-speed motor. If you only see one, it's likely a 1-speed.
"I want to say 60% of our mistaken orders for gas burner motors are because someone ordered a 1-speed motor for a 2-speed burner. The motor will run, but the control box will see a fault and lock out. It's a classic noob mistake." — Honestly, if the motor runs but the burner locks out, triple-check the capacitor count.
Step 3: Check the Oil Pump Model (For Oil Burners)
For a Riello oil burner, say a 40 F5 or an RL 64, the fuel pump is usually a Suntec or Danfoss. Riello doesn't make the pump itself. This matters because your spare parts supplier might ask for the pump code, not the Riello part number.
- Common pumps on Riello burners: Suntec AS series (e.g., AS 47 C) or Danfoss BFP series.
- The code is on the pump itself. It's usually a sticker on the side of the pump body.
Why this matters: A Suntec AS 47 C G 21 (rotating shaft assembly) is not the same as an AS 47 C G 23 (stationary internal gear). You'll receive a pump that spins the wrong direction or doesn't fit the mounting bracket. The price difference is maybe $15. The cost of downtime? A lot more.
Step 4: Verify the Control Box Series (For Gas Burners)
This is the step most people forget. If you're ordering a gas valve kit or a flame sensor for a gas burner (like an RS 44), you need to know the control box series. Is it an old RMG series, a newer LGK series, or a Microprocessor-based MB series?
- Old RMG series: Uses a screw-in type flame sensor.
- New LGK series: Uses a newer bayonet-style sensor. The wiring is different.
Surface vs. Reality: From the outside, a flame sensor looks like a generic metal rod. People assume you can swap them between burner models if the physical length matches. The reality is the signal processing is different. An RMG box expects a specific microamp range. An LGK box expects a different range.
I ran a blind test with our service team. 8 out of 10 experienced technicians could not visually tell the difference between an RMG sensor and an LGK sensor. The only reliable way is to check the part number on the control box itself.
Step 5: Question the 'Standard' Service Kit
Many suppliers sell a "Riello 40 F5 service kit" or a "standard boiler service kit." These kits are a great starting point for routine annual service. But they are not a replacement for a quality inspection if you have a specific failure.
What's usually in the kit: Nozzle (oil), gaskets, electrodes, filter.
